Format and Activities

The Health portion of the class will be Monday – Wednesday. Activities will include discussions, group presentations, homework, skits, papers, tests, research, and informational movies. Students should bring a notebook, pencils, and a folder to carry Health assignments daily to class.  Students can use all notes and worksheets for tests and it is recommended that they have something to keep them in.

The Physical Education portion of the class will be on Thursdays and Fridays where students will have to change to be in the gymnasium.  Students will be issued a school lock. At the end of the semester the locks will be returned to the school. If a lock is not returned, the cost of the lock ($6.00) will be assessed as a school fine. Anything in the locker room must be kept locked at all times. Bringing valuables or phones to class is discouraged and the responsibility for the loss of personal possessions resides with the student.

Students are responsible for bringing appropriate clothing and deodorant to Physical Education class. Please mark all clothes and personal items for identification purposes.  Clothing should be washed at least on a weekly basis. Plastic grocery bags work well carrying items to and from the locker room.

Students will need:

  • Shorts, or sweat pants (Can not be worn over or under street clothes)
  • T-Shirt, or sweat shirt (no tank tops or camisoles)
  • Tennis shoes (sandals are not to be worn)
  • Socks

We will be participating in a warm up activity everyday. Team, partner and individual activities will be utilized in the gym area or outside on the fields, track or courts.

Grading Practice and Procedures

Grading is based on a point system for participation in class and work turned in. Students must change clothes and participate in Physical Education to receive all points for the day. Grades start over after each marking period. Each marking period is worth 31% and the final exam is worth 7% toward the final grade.

Attendance and Tardiness

Tardiness will be handled according to the Student Handbook. It is the students responsibility to check with the teacher to retrieve missed work if absent. The student is allowed the number of days absent to complete make-up work for an excused absence. If a student is unable to participate in Physical Education due to illness or injury, a note from home will excuse them from active participation for a day. A Doctor’s certificate is need for any illness or injury that exceeds two days. Please inform me of any ongoing medical issues that would interfere with any kind of physical activity with the return section of this note.

Classroom Rules and Procedures

We will be following the CAMS ROCKS expectations in class at all times.

Technology

Students should have a signed form on file in the office to access the internet. Students will be using computers for research projects in class.

Please acknowledge this letter by signing below and having your child return the bottom half to class. Anytime that you would like to discuss any matter, please call.  Working together will provide a rewarding and enjoyable class for your child.

Thank you,
